Reduced plastic consumption
When initially approached by the organising team for support, we were impressed by how hard they are working to deliver the competition in a sustainable way and how this could set a great example for similar events in the future. By engaging with local environmental groups, the team have already started work on planting a community woodland to offset the carbon impact and are determined that the contest will not add to the pressure of single use plastic waste and pollution in the town and ocean. Happily, the ‘Bude refill project’ will ensure that clean and fresh Cornish drinking water is available for visitors, from free water fountains and local cafes and bars. Having reduced our own single use plastic consumption across our UK sites by 52% since 2016, we fully support these environmental considerations in the planning of the event.
